Incredibly, when we opened in November 2012 we were the first bar in the UK not to offer pints.. We felt that the beers we would be serving would be better represented in smaller measures. It seems to have caught on.
The Hanging Bat is dedicated to the very best of UK beer (with a smattering of beers from around the world, for good measure).
On each visit you can expect beers from The Kernel, Magic Rock, Thornbridge, Harbour, Wild Beer Co, Tiny Rebel, Almasty, Pilot, Lagunitas, Fyne Ales, Alpha State, Cloudwater, Buxton, BBNo's, Camden, Beavertown, Fourpure, Arbor, Moor, and many many, erm, more..
Each month we hold a Meet The Brewer event with one of the UK's best breweries.
We regularly hold events, ranging from IPA days, blind beer boards and many more. Some planned, some very last minute.

All our cooked food is made using our smoker. The hot dogs, ribs, wings, even the burnt beans. We're not a restaurant, we don't take bookings, we just make great comfort BBQ food to eat alongside drinking great beers. No chips (before you inevitably ask).
Head chef, Vince Gasparini prepares daily specials to compliment the main menu. The Pork Belly Sub is a particular recurring favourite.
We source our food from the best local suppliers. Our hot dogs were bespoke designed for us back in 2012 and are now used by several other Edinburgh bars and restaurants. In addition, we have our house prepped bar snacks and the pork pies and brownies from our friends at Blackfriars Restaurant and Lovecrumbs Bakery respectively.
Have a pickled hot dog. Seriously.
Another first for Edinburgh. We launched our bar with our own Sabco Magic Brew. A 50L brewkit from the USA. We've now on our 4th brewer, all of whom have been students at the Heriot Watt Brewing and Distilling degree course.
Our brewers have a reputation for making great beer using interesting styles and regularly make beer for the likes of Timberyard and Blackfriars, two of Edinburgh's best restaurants.
They also have a reputation for giving their beers ridiculous names.
Jonny has been brewing on the Alpha Project kit now for almost a year. He is taking a back seat from the Alpha Project for the time being, in order to put together our production brewery. This involves him drinking more coffee than is probably safe.

Current Alpha Project Head Brewer.. Robin has worked for us for a while, and was part of our kitchen team for many months, proving himself to be a talented chef. He has since transferred that talent to his brewing.
